Over the past couple of years, I've been developping a few programs about automatic music composition. Generative music is both old and new story. Because humans use composition "systems", they've been interested in ways to mechanically produce music content based on the rules of these very systems. And, as a result, there is something fascinating when a machine produces something both appropriate and yet unexpected : the machine becomes a sort of extension of its creator. To generate music nowadays, digital technologies allow for a variety of strategies that are being explored since the early days in the 70s and up to now with machine learning--so called "AI".

With "Generative_1 Still", I wanted to dive into the interaction between digitally generated music data and analog recordings. The musical data is algorithmically produced and performs on a old piano captured on tape.
